Book Group

The first Book Group of the new fall season will meet at 3:00 p.m. on Monday September 23, 2019 at the home of Sandie Hahn.

We will discuss Zora Neale Hurston’s novel, Their Eyes were Watching God.  Hurston is a lyrical writer who sets her heroine, Janie Crawford, in an all-black town in Florida in the early 1900’s.

Hurston uses an actual hurricane for dramatic effect, as Janie carries out her quest for true love, facing down other people’s expectations and limitations set for her by family, husbands, and ultimately, nature.  This is a story with universal themes told with skill and even charm, as Janie struggles through to successful perseverance.

If you plan to attend, please call Sandie at  585-223-6123 or email her by Sunday, September 22nd so that she may plan refreshments.  All are encouraged to attend, and to bring a guest if you wish.  Hope to see you then!
